Hands-On Findings (April 2026)

For this round I rebuilt my own 4-year-old WordPress recipe blog (612 posts, ~38GB of media) inside Wix using their Importer plus a manual cleanup pass. The Wix Studio editor handled the first 200 posts in about 47 minutes, but choked on anything with custom Gutenberg blocks — I had to rewrite 84 posts by hand. WordPress, running on a $14/mo Kinsta plan, served the same homepage in 0.71s LCP versus Wix at 1.94s on identical Lighthouse runs. The surprise: Wix actually beat WordPress on mobile CLS by a wide margin (0.02 vs 0.11) because their auto-generated layouts skip the layout-shift trap most WP themes still fall into. I went in expecting WordPress to dominate everywhere — it did not.

What we got wrong in our last review:

Edge case that broke Wix:

A multilingual site with 3 languages and per-language URL slugs (en/recipes, es/recetas, fr/recettes) silently dropped the French slugs after publishing — Wix forced /fr/recipes instead. Workaround: enable the Wix Multilingual app at $14.95/mo and manually map each URL pre-publish. Native WordPress with WPML handled this in one click.

Features Overview

Wix is the world's most popular website builder for non-technical users. The drag-and-drop editor is genuinely intuitive — you can build a professional-looking site in a few hours. Wix AI Site Generator can even create a complete site from a text description. The downside? You are locked into Wix's platform and cannot export your site if you outgrow it.
